Zooey Deschanel Exits CAA for UTA
Zooey Deschanel has left CAA for UTA, The Hollywood Reporter has exclusively learned.
The actress and musician stars on Fox’s New Girl, although her titular character will be absent for four episodes when the comedy returns for its fifth season, as Deschanel is pregnant. She will, however, appear in theaters this fall in Barry Levinson’s Rock the Kasbah, which stars Bill Murray as a washed-up music manager who shepherds a young singer through an Afghan reality singing competition.
Before her Emmy- and Golden Globe-nominated turn in New Girl, Deschanel was already known as an indie film darling, starring in pictures including (500) Days of Summer, All the Real Girls and The Good Girl. Her other movie credits include Almost Famous, The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, Yes Man and Elf, one of the many films in which she employed the pipes she showcases as one-half of the indie duo She & Him, which released its fifth studio album last December. Deschanel is also co-founder of the female-friendly website and production company HelloGiggles.
Deschanel was actually at UTA for a brief stint in 2013 before returning to CAA, her agency for most of the past decade. UTA, of course, has become the new home for a dozen CAA agents and countless clients — including Chris Pratt, Will Ferrell and Sarah Silverman — over the last couple of months.
She continues to be represented by attorney Steve Warren at Hansen Jacobson.
Zooey Deschanel‘s Fox comedy New Girl just got a fifth season renewal from the network!
In fact, the cast has already begun shooting the fifth season due to Zooey‘s pregnancy. They decided to shoot a bunch of episodes while Zooey is still able to work before the baby comes. Then the cast will get a bit of a hiatus, E! News reports.
“I have been having a lot of fun in the writers’ room this year putting some of the relationship drama aside and just focusing on making the stories as funny as possible,” creator Liz Meriwether told the publication. “Surprisingly, telling stories about smaller events in the characters’ lives has actually deepened the relationships on the show. It turns out the best way to tell a story about a relationship is to not tell a story about a relationship. I’m going to get that quote tattooed to my lower back later.”
Happy birthday to Zooey!Tweet
Listen to Joseph Gordon-Levitt Sing – and Help Him Make a Song
Joseph Gordon-Levitt, 33, sent out a request for musicians on his creative collaboration platform, hitRECord, on Thursday by sharing a new song featuring himself on lead vocals.
The ’80s-inspired tune, “Ready Aim Fire,” started when a musician shared an instrumental track on the site, leading to another collaborator to pen lyrics and Gordon-Levitt to contribute the vocals.
Of course, this isn’t the first time we’ve heard the actor’s smooth singing voice – he’s performed songs with(500) Days of Summer costar Zooey Deschanel and gone on tour with hitRECord, where he’s performed covers of various songs.
Gordon-Levitt founded hitRECord in 2005 as a way to get writers, musicians, artists and filmmakers to collaborate and give feedback on each other’s work.
Listen to “Ready Aim Fire” on hitRECord, and if you’re inspired by what you hear, Gordon-Levitt and his team are accepting contributions to the song through their site until Jan. 30.
The finished product will be shared on a new episode of hitRECord on TV.
